His parents named him after the name of the second element of the periodic table of chemical elements — Helium. Geliy’s character is completely different from noble inert monatomic gas which is colorless, odorless, and tasteless. He always had feeling of color, odor and taste of life.

Geliy Sokol was born in the City oof Krasnoyarsk, Russia in 1936. His passion for photography he got from his farther and kept it for all his life. He was a NAVY serviceman, a heating engineer, a Ph. D. in Technical Science. He now works for Higher Temperature Institute of Russian Academy of Science. He learned to ski at his 70 but he never gave up his camera.
